Understanding how Blackcart orders work in your storefront system is an important aspect in running your Try Before You Buy program.
In this article, we'll walk you through how Blackcart orders appear in your Shopify store at different stages during the order cycle, as well as how you can access additional key order-level information through our Merchant Portal.
How to read Blackcart orders in Shopify
After a customer places a Try Before You Buy order, it will appear as a new order in the Orders page of your Shopify store, with a "Blackcart" tag applied to indicate the sales channel.
If your program configurations require customers to pay an upfront deposit, a tag reflecting the deposit amount will also be applied to the order.
*It is important to note that all Blackcart orders will have an initial payment status of Paid in Shopify, even though full payment for the order has not yet been processed.
Payment for Try Before You Buy items in the order will not be processed until the order reaches the completed status, when either the customer makes their "keep" / "send back" decision, or the Try period expires.*
Once the Blackcart order reaches the completed status, a 2nd tag, "Blackcart-Complete", will be automatically applied to the order in Shopify.
At the same time, the order total in Shopify will also update to reflect the actual paid amount (for any "kept" items, plus taxes and fees).
How to view the real-time payment status for Blackcart orders
The Reports available through your Merchant Portal account provide a detailed breakdown of each Blackcart order. The report will be updated in real time as the order progresses through the order cycle, allowing you to keep track of order status and any transaction events. More details on how to access our reports can be found here.
